Latest Bedard Situation

John Hickey of the Seattle PI has the latest on the Erik Bedard situation. Hickey notes that the Orioles want a package that includes Adam Jones, Brandon Morrow, Jeff Clement and/or George Sherrill. The Mariners have said that Morrow is off-limits unless they get blown away with a trade offer. The Mariners may not be that willing to trade Jeff Clement either. The Orioles are also looking at 17 year old shortstop Carlos Truinfel, and the Mariners' minor league pitcher of the year Chris Tillman. Although all of this hot stove is fun, it would be nice to see the Mariners finally just get a deal done for Bedard, without giving up too much.

Why can't the Mariners just make a deal? They are in a good position to try and win right now. Ichiro is coming off of a great season, the pitching looks good. All we need are the bats to pick up a little bit. Then maybe we can get back into the playoffs again...

It's not EA Sports baseball here. This is the real thing. GM's have to think of more than just the player. Stuff like salary, attitude, potential come into effect. It's also hard to trade away two or three of your top prospects.
