- Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times learned that the Cubs never contacted Torii Hunter's agent before he signed with the Angels. Derek Lee and Hunter are friends, so Lee may have been able to lure Hunter over.
- D'Backs pitchers Brandon Medders and Dustin Nippert are out of options, and one of them could be traded.
